Udupi: Labour officers rescue child worker from a bar

Udupi, Oct 30: The labour officers have rescued a boy who was made to work for a bar in Sasthan.

The boy is aged 13 years and hails from Sindan village of Banda district of Uttar Pradesh. The name of the boy cannot be revealed for legal reasons. He worked for Madhura bar and restaurant in Sasthan.

A supervisor from Uttar Pradesh had brought the boy from his home town to Sasthan. It is believed that abject poverty at home prompted the boy’s parents to send him for work. The boy had worked only for week before the labour officers rescued him on tip off from people.

The Udupi district labour officer H P Jnanesh with the help from other labour officers from Kundapur and Udupi divisions Jeevan Kumar, Satyanarayan and Prabhakar Achar and Kota police officers, Gopal and Ravindra, participated in the rescue operation.

The boy has been sent to Spoorthi Dhama, a special school for child labourers at Keduru, Thekkatte. The administrator of the school Dr Keshav Koteshwar was also part of the rescue team.
