Kundapur, Oct 10: Another boat mishap occurred at Gangolli estuary here after a boat capsized on Friday, October 10.
Seven fishermen who were in the boat were rescued. The boat was damaged incurring loss amounting to several lacs.
The boat named 'Jalavahini' was returning to the port after fishing in the afternoon and met with an accident at the Gangolli estuary. Meanwhile, fishermen from Shivakripa boat who were also returning after fishing rescued the fishermen.
Boat owners Ganya Ananda Kharvi, Chonde Krishna Kharvi and Jatka Sheena Kharvi and fishermen Sunila Kharvi, Raghavendra Kharvi, Pokke Achuta Kharvi and Suresh Kharvi have been rescued.
About 110 baskets of fish fell into the sea after the accident. The boat engine and net were damaged. The boat was also damaged in the mishap causing a loss of Rs two lacs.
Three boats and a small barge had met with an accident causing loss amounting to several lacs in the last month at Gangolli estuary.
Babu Rao Cinchansur, minister of textiles and inland water transport had visited the place on September 19 and Byndoor MLA K Gopala Poojary and Kundapur assistant commissioner Yogeshwar had visited the place on September 15 and conducted inspection of the place.
After visiting the place, the minister had assured the dredging work of the place would begin soon at a cost of Rs two crore which had made the fishermen smile then. The fact that it is not put to practice yet has caused outrage among them.
