Mangalore, Sep 9: Student union inaugural ceremony was organized at Ravindra Kalabavana Mangalore University college on Tuesday September 9 at 10 am in the city.
The programme began with a prayer song and lighting of the lamp by the guest on the dias.
Floral welcome was given to the guest by Dr Satyanarayana Mallipattana, Principal of Mangalore University introduced the guests on the dias to the students and their achievements. He also spoke on the history of the college by saying during opening of the college the boys count was high and girls were 1/3 of the total count of the college, but now this has been been reversed and girls are above 1000 while boys studying in the college are 400. He also spoke on the upcoming canteen facility in the campus which will inaugurate within two months.
The oath taking ceremony was conducted by Principal Dr Satyanarayana Mallipattana, Shyam Prasad as president, Ashok R as secretary and Swetha Kumari Herala as joint secretary along with other office-bearers of the Union for the year 2014-15 took the oath.
Addressing the gathering, chief guest Dr Bharat Shetty vice principal, A J Institute of Dental Sciences and Vice President of Dental council of India said, "India is the first country to start the student union quoting the puranas 'Pralada' who formed a union to protest against the injustice. Student union plays a vital role along with management to have a successful institution. Youth power can build the nation and can also destroy the nation. Our national spirit is deteriorating day by day. Education must create patriots. Students should stay away from naxalism and terrorism which is anti-patriotic," he added.
Dr K Chinnappa Gowda Faculty of Arts, Department of Kannada, Mangalore University college in his presedential address said, "We should work hard to protect the heritage of university college which has long tradition. We need to concentrate not only expansion but also quality of the education. We should respect the diversity in knowledge. We need to live as we speak. We have ample opportunities to grow and must utilize them. There are many things happening in the society that will make us loose our tracks, we need to find some time everyday to introspect one's own thoughts or feelings which will give courage to walk in the right path."
Mementoes were given as a token of gratitude to the guests. Professor Buvaneshwari Hegde compered the programme and Shyam Prasad, president of university college delivered the vote of thanks.
Various cultural programmes were arranged to celebrate the student union inaugural ceremony.
