Udupi, Sep 1: In a complaint filed in the town police station here, Upendra Nayak, resident of Puttur willage in Santekatte Kallianpur here said that gold ornaments worth Rs 1.85 lac kept in a locker in his house had been stolen.
He said that while leaving to attend a programme on August 15, a golden chain known as 'Kashi Taali' weighing five sovereigns, secured in a vanity bag had been kept inside a steel almirah inside his house. During the day, when family members were away, a relative had borrowed the key of his house on the pretext of visiting the house on account of urgent work. However, the vanity bag containing the gold ornament and locker key were found missing when the almirah was opened the same night, he explained.
Nayak also stated that he had borrowed the services of a key maker on August 27 and opened the locker of the almirah with his help. It was found that a golden ring weighing one sovereign kept inside the locker had gone missing, whereas gold chain of children and golden ear hangings, beads relating these ear hangings and others were found strewn inside the locker.
The policemen have registered a complaint and begun investigation.
