Mangalore, Aug 28: LINK de-addiction centre is a project of LINK anti addiction citizens committee, a registered charitable organization, established in 1991. Its primary concern is to provide services in the field of prevention of alcoholism and drug addiction on one hand and de-addiction and rehabilitation on the other hand.
With emphasis on the concept, 'prevention is better than cure' and de-addiction as a step towards development, LINK has reached out to many districts in Karnataka and also outside Karnataka. The de-addiction centre has been recognized and aided by the ministry of social justice and empowerment, government of India and monitored by the department of women and child welfare, government of Karnataka.
It was started with lots of enthusiasm as an anti addiction student’s movement under the leadership of T S Thomas at Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore and registered under the presidentship of Ronald Colaco. The organization has now grown with active participation of people from all walks of life under the efficient management of an elected managing committee and a committed team of staff. The organization has completed 23 eventful years of this noble cause.
LINK’s founder president Ronald Colaco funded the organization financially in the initial stages and he continues the dame support till date and its founder members was the main source of financial and moral support to the movement. The organization is running a 50 bedded de-addiction centre at JM Road, Padil post, Mangalore.
To mark this memorable day, a half day programme was arranged at LINK de-addiction and counseling centre on Sunday August 24.
President Of LINK AACC Dr Satheesh Rao, psychiatrist, KS Hegde Medical College presided over the programme. A neem sapling was planted by him to make this day a memorable one.
Speaking to the participants he said, “Care and love shown by the staff members brings a lot of changes in the life of the patients."
He remembered all the people who have rendered their selfless service to this organization.
He added, “Many teenagers are now getting addicted to technology like computer, internet, facebook and smart phones. Youth are now coming to the hospital because they are not able to concentrate on their studies due to the addiction to technology, so it is a reminder to the parents."
Dennis D’silva, executive member of LINK AACC said, “LINK has been giving good service to the society by helping the people to lead an alcohol free life."
He also asked them to give the message to others and help the people who were in need.
Dr Ravish Tunga, psychiatrist, Manaswini Clinic, Mangalore and executive member of LINK AACC, said, “I feel proud for being a part of LINK and have seen the tremendous journey of LINK for the past 23 years. Many alcoholic patients who come here and take treatment are leading a good life and its God’s handiwork which is taking place in LINK since 23 years."
Lydia Lobo, administrator, LINK IRCA lead the honoring of the sober patients event and many sober people were turned up to the centre with the family to take part in this event.
Melwin Fernandes presented the annual report of LINK. Pascal Veigas welcomed and Dhananjay Kundar proposed the vote of thanks. Halesh and Ajnjan compered the programme.
The programme concluded with lunch.
