Mangalore, Aug 27: Team Mangalore, the city based amateur kite flying team will be the guest of honour from India for the international kite festival which will be held in Dieppe, France from September 6 to 14.
Addressing the media persons in the press club on Tuesday August 26, founder of the team Sarvesha Rao said, “Team Mangalore has been invited by the mayor of Dieppe Sebastian Jumail, as the guest of honour to participate from India. This is an honor to all the Mangaloreans and the people of our country since for the first time in the history of the kite festivals this honor has been given to any team of our country.”
The special creations of Team Mangalore for the 18th international kite festival are ‘Vibhishana’ and ‘Sangama’. Designed by Dinesh Holla, Sarvesha Rao, Satish Rao and Pranesh, 'Vibhishana' depicts a character from Ramayana. It is an applique kite with the height of 30 feet and width 9 feet. 'Sangama' is a hexagon shaped kite with the height of nine feet and width five feet and is expected to attract the people.
The artistic theme for the 2014 festival is luminescence, which will be highlighted in the kite ‘Surya’ of the team.
“Along with this, an exhibition of the portraits of Dinesh Holla will also be held and the team will showcase the rich tradition of Mangalore through a telefilm every evening in the festival from 4 to 5 pm,” he said.
