Udupi, Aug 18: Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA, Udupi constituency, led the quarterly KDP meeting held at Taluk Panchayat, Udupi, on Monday August 18. He drew attention on homeless people and ordered a quick survey along with directions to the PDO and VA.
He ordered the submission of all reports about vacating lands and government lands and told them tosaid all bogus applications should be rejected without thinking. The Tahasildar complained that 60 panchayats had not yet submitted their list and agreed to complete everything within two months.
The MLA gave first priority to rented households and second to those who have come out from the joint families and live separately. Brahmavar, Kota, and Udupi are at the final step.
The Tahasildar said that there is no space in Udupi city, so the MLA retorted that he should study Kanakapura region and implement the same model.
Madhwaraj pressurized withdrawal of all deemed land from the forest department. He stressed that some space should be reserved for developmental work like a health center, cemetery, and dumping yard.
Udupi stands 30th in Udyog Khatri Yojana and the MLA alleged that the district authority had failed to utilize the unlimited funds from the government due to lack of communication with the public and the MLA insisted conducting of a campaign in every village to meet the target beneficiaries and create awareness about agriculture and animal husbandry amongst others.
Later, Madhwaraj stressed the need to increase the job cards and said Rs 10-20 lac has been invested in Udupi district.
Fisheries department official said that hardly 250-300 applications have been received from Udupi taluk panchayat and there is a need for 350 quality ice boxes. He also said there is no demand for cycles from the fishermen and loans on subsidy basis to purchase vehicles are needed such as Rs 30,000 for two-wheelers and Rs 10,000 for three-wheelers
Under the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme, 1066 housing connections are in process and the rest will be completed within a month.
On the issue of Thottam hostel published in the media, the concerned authority said that the problem arises due to excessive admissions and 30 students were shifted to Udupi Bannanje OBC hostel. The problem is lack of space and sanitation.
MLA replied that nothing much could be done about this as demands are more and the problems will rise automatically. Madhwaraj further ordered the closure of 63 uncapped private and 70 government borewells.
The whole meet was held peacefully and the MLA adjourned the meeting to next month.
