Bangalore, Aug 12: Bangalore based Assamese musician Jim Ankan Deka's music video 'Aawaz - speak up against sexual violence' has won the bronze medal at the 'Global Music Awards - 2014' held at San Diego, California. Aawaz is the only video from India which was nominated for the event.
'Aawaz - speak up against sexual violence', the music video, was released online in June, 2013 with an aim to sensitize people of various social evils like sexual violence, child abuse and marital rape. Since its release, the song had won four awards including Best Music and Best Music Video at three international film festivals.
The song was originally composed for a rally in Bangalore in 2012 following the death of the Delhi gang rape victim. The lyrics of the song are penned together by Jim Ankan and singer Ritwika Bhattacharya from Ranchi, Jharkhand. Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs (2009) finalist Antara Nandy from Kolkata has rendered her vocals to this cause along with Ritwika and Queen Hazarika, another famous singer and actor from Assam.
The music video is directed by Bangalore based writer and director Parmita Borah. Parmita Borah along with Antara Baruah and Rachel Rose Oommen acted in the video which includes three short stories dealing with violence against single as well as married women and child abuse. This collaborative project involves noted artists from across India.
