New Delhi, Aug 11: The Indian government on Friday termed the US embassy warning of possible terrorist attack in Delhi and Mumbai as 'innocuous' and said it is an internal matter of the embassy which has issued an advisory to its citizens.
Briefing reporters, Home Secretary V K Duggal said ''I have read the advisory today and it is for their staff only''.
Duggal said the government will take action on the basis of the inputs provided by the embassy.
Earlier in the day, the US embassy warned that foreign terrorists, possibly including members of Al Qaeda are planning to carry out a series of bomb attacks in and around Delhi and Mumbai in the days leading up to the Independence Day.
The warning comes in the form of an adivsory issued by the US Embassy here to American citizens in the country.
Duggal said states are also being sensitised on the terror attacks as well as the police forces.
The Home Secretary gave his assurances that all possible measures are being taken to beef up security. ''It is the job of the government to protect,'' Duggal said in a brief press conference here. The Home Secretary added that ''everything required is being done,''.
The advisory also gives a possible time frame of August 11-16 for the attacks, which it says are likely to target major airports, key central Indian government offices and major gathering places such as hotels and markets.
The Embassy has urged American citizens to maintain a low profile and advised them to be alert and attentive to their surroundings during this period.
Yesterday, Britain unearthed a massive terrorist plan to hijack as many as ten passenger planes between UK and the US and detained 21 people, including those of Pakistani origin.
Last evening the Home Ministry has sounded red alert in all airports in the light of fresh security input suggesting infiltration by Pakistan-trained terrorists to disrupt Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
According to intelligence information, six Pakistani-trained terrorists might infiltrate via Algeria or the Maldives.
In the light of the "distressing" input, the ministry has directed the Central Industrial Security Force to augment its surveillance and installation and anti-hijacking measures.
The CISF, which has been in charge of security in 55 airports, has put in place a 24X7 dog squad and bomb disposal and detection squad in all the major airports, in the wake of an aborted attempt by terrorists to blow up a US-bound airport in London early Friday.
