Udupi, Jun 14: Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj visited Malpe beach on Friday June 13 to assess the spots where sea erosion has occurred. He was accompanied by T S Rathod, engineer, functional manager of port and fishing. Madhwaraj told him to take immediate action to tackle erosion-related problems.
Most of the precautionary boards have been washed out on the beach. Sea erosion is on the rise in areas like Thottam, Kaup Padu village, Gangolli in Kundapur taluk, and Kali Hitlu in
Byndoor.
The stone benches installed for the benefit of tourists and locals have been washed away by huge sea waves. Coconut trees are likely to be rooted up, so there is an immediate need to take
measures to prevent waves.
The locals opined that there is an urgent need to maintain a clean environment because a lot of tourists visit the area during the season and they might get a bad impression.
The people also shared their grievances with the MLA regarding the sea erosion and property loss.
Shrikanth Rao, municipality commissioner, Mohan Rao, tahsildar, and Yuvaraj, CMC president, were present.
