Bangalore, May 29: BJP leader and former minister C T Ravi has demanded a judicial probe into the Bijapur violence, which erupted two days ago during a procession carried out by the party workers to celebrate the swearing in of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minisrer.
Addressing a news conference in Bangalore on Thursday, Ravi urged the Government to take immediate steps to nab the real culprits instead of foisting false cases against BJP workers and former Union Minister Basanagouda Patil Yatnal.
He urged the government to order the judicial probe either by a sitting judge or retired judge of the High Court to reveal reasons behind the violence to the public.
The violence broke out during celebratory process taken by the BJP after Narendra Modi took over as Prime Minister on May 26.
The police arrested Yatnal from a hotel in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, on Wednesday and booked a case against him, he said.
Karnataka’s Water Resources Minister M B Patil had termed the incident "small" and said it was not a communal conflict between Hindus and Muslim community.
The police had taken the action as per the law, the minister said.
Ravi also blamed the Government for an alleged tussle between the state police forces and demanded Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to divest Minister K J George from the Home portfolio.
"The episode was a big drama and shameful to the Government," he said.
