Kundapur: Kodi fishermen save youth who tried to commit suicide

Kundapur, May 27: The fishermen, who returned after unloading the fish on the shore, saved a youth who was drowning in the sea; they dragged him out, gave him first aid and saved his life.

The incident occurred on Monday May 26 afternoon in Kodithale.


The youth has been identified as Raghu Devadiga (27), a resident of Ankadakatte; it is learnt that he tried to commit suicide.

Fishermen from Kodi, Ashok Kharvi, Arun, Satish, Anand Karvi, Ajith, Shivaraj and Dev were returning from work after unloading fish at the destination spot. These fishermen happened to spot a youth floating in water; they rushed to the spot in their boat and dragged him out of the water. After giving him first aid, they found that his condition was still serious. They informed the ambulance and the police.

He was rushed to the Kundapur government hospital for further treatment and is learnt that he is recovering.

Sources say that, love failure is the reason for his suicide. The youth has also hurt his hands due to depression. The parents of the girl whom he loved had decided to get her married to someone else and this is said to be the prime reason for this extreme step.

It is ascertained that the girl whom he loved too had attempted suicide and is recovering in Koteshwara hospital.
