Mangalore, May 7: “Just buying the book is not enough for the development of the Konkani language. We should insist that others buy the book and read it, and that is how we can develop our Konkani,” said Fr Mark Valder, well-known Konkani activist and former editor of Konkani weekly ‘Raknno’ after releasing the book ‘Phool Ani Kanto'.
The book release ceremony was held on Tuesday May 6 at Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Mangalore. 'Phool Ani Kanto' written by Kochi Ananth Bhat, and‘Meghadhoota’ by Dr Aravind Shanbagh, were the two books released during the ceremony.
P B Harish Rai, president of DKWJU, released the book ‘Meghadhoota’ and said humorously, “I speak Tulu and my wife speaks Konkani, so there are both Konkani and Tulu academies in my house.”
“There is a lot of culture behind every language and no person should degrade any language. Roy Castelino, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, is a great person. He has been doing a lot of social work," said Rai.
Castelino welcomed the guests and Mamatha Kamath proposed the vote of thanks.
Dr Chethan Nayak compered the ceremony. Dr Devadas Pai, registrar, Vittori Karkol, Basti Vaman Shenoy, Luis Pinto, and Stany Alvares were present at the programme.
