Kundapur, May 1: Daijiworld had carried a story about the plight of the people residing in Guddeangady in Yaday Matyady village, which falls under Hombady Mandady gram panchayat in the taluk, because of drought-like situation they have been facing every summer since the last three years because of a tube well that had gone dry.
The report on daijiworld was brought to the notice of the local authorities soon after it was published on Wednesday April 30. The zilla panchayat, which promptly responded to the report, initiated the work on providing water to these residents by evening the same day.
Santosh Kumar, village development officer of Hombady Mandady gram panchayat, said that the work is progressing well, and the panchayat is hopeful of starting water supply to the people of Guddeangady within three days.
This project with an estimated outlay of Rs 2 lac uses a grant of Rs 1.15 lac from the zilla panchayat, with the remaining cost funded by the gram panchayat, Kumar added.
He also informed that a 364-ft deep borewell is being rigged for supplying water to Guddeangady residents.
With this, over 125 families living in Guddeangady will get a permanent source of water. Smiles are back on their faces after a gap of three years, as their worst problem is expected to get over soon.
