Mangalore, Jun 22: In a heart-rending incident a mother and son duo died of falling into a well at Kelrai near Neermarga here on Wednesday June 21.

Sunali (34), wife of Pavan Kumar and her son Umesh died after falling into a nearby well on Wednesday. Pavan Kumar is a native of Nepal and is working as security guard in Shakti Rubber Factory at Neermarga-Kelrai.  He had two children, a boy and a girl.  While girl is in Nepal, boy Umesh was here with his parents.

It is said that there was a turtle in the nearby well.  Umesh had been insisting to see that very often.  ON Wednesday too he had been asking his parents to take him near the well.  But parents did not.  Later Pavan went to his job as usual.

However, when he came back in the afternoon, both Sunali and Umesh were missing.  He started searching them with the help of his neighbours.  To their shock they found mother and son in the well, already died.

It is now suspected that Umesh might have gone near the well to see the turtle and in the bargain he might had fallen into the well.  Having come to know mother Sunali too jumped into the well to rescue her son.  But she did not know to swim and there was no one nearby who could rescue them both.  This eventually resulted in the death of both mother and child.

The Kankanady police have registered the case and are investigating the matter.
