Beltangady, Jun 13: District Crime Investigation Bureau (DCIB) police have during a raid at a house at Sanjaynagar near here exposed a blue film and pirated film CD racket on Monday June 12.
The DCIB police led by inspector K Tilakchandra raided a house at Sanjaynagar after receiving a sure tip-off about the blue film and pirated CD racket. The police found that one Vijay Bennis (32) was involved in copying blue films to CDs using his computer and CD writer.
The police seized a computer, CD writer, printer cum scanner, 79 blue film CDs, 1,351 pirated CDs of Kannada, English, Hindi and Malayalam films, 1,050 empty CDs (yet to be used), bundles of cassette stickers, CD cards and covers from the house. The total value of the seized goods is said to be Rs 1 lac.
During the initial investigation Vijay disclosed that he used to procure blue film CDs from neighbouring Kerala and copy them through the computer at his house. He then used to sell them to people in Udupi and other places. He also said that he used to rent these CDs out in his neighbourhood.
The Beltangady police after booking a case on Vijay have produced him before the court on Tuesday June 13.
