Junior Chamber International (JCI) India plans to organise the World Congress 2008 in New Delhi, said Chamber national president Rajan Babu while addressing a press conference here on Monday June 5.

He said that the bid for the Congress will be approved in November 2006. Around six thousand delegates from 115 countries are expected to attend.

He further disclosed that the main purpose of the Congress was to provide scholarships to 1000 students from economically backward classes as per the Vidyadan project.  

Babu said that JCI provides leadership training to around 10 lac students under its 'Leadership 21st Century' scheme. The Outstanding Young Person Award will be presented to ten young achievers from across the country, he informed. The 'Kamal Patra' award will also be conferred to members of JC.

The Chamber has also provided counselling to victimised children under its 'Operation Go Up' Project. A school building for these children at Pondicherry, costing Rs 15 lac, is also in progress and will be completed in a few months, he said.

The press conference was attended by Chamber zone secretary Anil Kumar Jain, zone president Chittaranjan, zone vice-president Vimal Keerti, programme director Madhusudan Rao and directors Abhijeet and A S Mahesh.
