Mumbai, Jun 2: In what could change the face of women’s cricket in India, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced on Thursday after its special AGM, the formation of a women’s wing.
According to BCCI vice-president Shashank Manohar, all the state associations, within a year, will have to develop, promote and sustain women’s cricket.
Manohar also said that for the next year, the BCCI will aid the Women’s Cricket Association of India with finance for training and bilateral tournaments as well find a sponsor for the team.

The move, according to the India women’s team coach Sudha Shah will help improve standards.
The lack of finance has always been a big hindrance to the development of women’s cricket in the country. “We managed to reach the finals of the last World Cup. Hopefully, we will be able to do better the next time.”
Though many believed that the BCCI should have made the move earlier, Shah decided to look at the positives. “Let’s forget all that. Now that it has happened, it is important to make best use of the opportunities,” she said.
