Mangalore, May 27: A surprise visit by Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), to a packaging unit at Baikampady here on Thursday May 26, unearthed the malpractices in the working system and poor living conditions of the employees.

A press release from the team revealed that nearly 25 youth hailing from Jharkhand and Orissa, were mostly illiterate, and that their names had not been registered in the records of the establishment.  It was found that benefits like PF were denied, and they were staying in a perilous condition in a small room without any facilities.

The team led by K Kumarappa, regional PF commissioner, also comprised enforcement officer Chandra Hebbar and Jayaram Gowda.

The commissioner has taken up action against the employers.
