Panaji, Feb 22 (TNN): The upcoming Lok Sabha elections will be a test for Goans who have been betrayed by both the Congress and the BJP governments and now have the option of voting for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Briefing media persons, AAP representatives in Goa said that the party will field two candidates based more on their credibility rather than on their 'win-ability'.
Said AAP's Dr Oscar Rebello, "Our candidates may not be glamorous but they will be sincere candidates who have done work at the grassroots. We will go by the premise that people want impeccable candidates. If we win, the people of Goa win; if we lose, the people of Goa lose."
AAP's Valmiki Naik said that the party is set to launch a nation-wide donation drive to fund their election campaign. The AAP target is to raise 300-crore and to win 300 seats. The donation drive will be totally transparent and will be very innovative.
Asked if AAP Goa would accept money from mining companies, Rebello said he is not in-charge of the finances, but would be very disappointed if AAP Goa accepted money from mining companies, the casino lobby and other companies with dubious records.
AAP Goa claimed credit for getting the government to finally launch three projects in Valpoi that were lying unutilized, probably due to a spat between Congress Valpoi MLA Vishwajeet Rane and the BJP government.
"One such project is the Valpoi bus stand and community hall, the second is the new hospital and the third is the market complex. The projects were built with public money for the benefit of the public. But all were lying unutilized for almost two years," Naik said.
With an AAP delegation confronting GSIDC MD Sanjit Rodrigues, director of municipal administration and other government bodies, the government has finally agreed to launch the projects, Naik said. The Valpoi bus stand will be inaugurated on February 22.
