Bangalore, May 26: The Karnataka Legislature will be convened for a day on June five to bring in an amendment to the Karnataka Legislature (Prevention of Disqualification) Act, 1957, in line with the Parliament Amendment Bill on holding of office-of-profit.
Informing this in a post-Cabinet media briefing here today, Medical Education Minister V S Acharya said the Cabinet unanimously agreed to bring in the amendment, which sought to exempt more posts from the purview of office-of-profit criterion.
The posts to be exempted were deputy minister, parliamentary secretary, corporation mayor and deputy mayor, zilla panchayat president and vice-president, and chairman and members of statutory committees, he said.
The parliament had passed the Amendment Bill on May 16 to bring an end to the controversy over the office-of-profit issue.
