Mangalore, May 26: A meeting of the Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana’s district implementation committee was held here at the Zilla Panchayat office on Thursday May 25.
Jayashankar Mosces, district deputy project coordinator, Sarva Shikshana Abhiyan (SSA), informed that four new schools will be approved under the SSA this year. Thirty one schools have been established under the SSA since 2001, the year of its inception.
While the city heads the list in Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER), Sullia taluk is lagging behind. Simultaneously, the adoption of Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana has led to the decrease in the drop-out rate over the years, he said. Enrolment of children to schools has also increased since the state government started distributing uniforms and textbooks.
With a purpose of providing education to migrant children, a new concept of mobile schools will be introduced. For this, an amount of Rs 1.5 lac has been proposed for the year 2006-07, wherein nearly 100 children will be accommodated under the scheme, he added.
Also present at the meet were Mamatha D S Gatti, president, ZP, A M Kunjappa, CEO, ZP, Dharanendra Kumar, vice president and B Nagaraj Shetty, district-in-charge minister.
