Mangalore, May 23: A seminar on 'Status of Indian breed buffaloes' was organised by the Dakshina Kannada Milk Producers Union here on Monday May 22. The seminar was held as a part of International bio-diversity day.
Speaking on the occasion, Board director Dr V S Sundarmurthy said that the native breeds of buffaloes are better than hybrid ones. He lamented that buffalo breeding is steadily declining in the state and there was a need to revive the practice. He stressed on the need for farmers to breed the local species of buffaloes as much as possible.
The seminar was inaugurated by the Zilla Panchayat president Mamata Gatti who said that the ZP will make an effort to spread awareness among the farmers regarding the breeding of buffaloes.
The seminar was presided over by Dakshina Kannada Milk Union president B Niranjan. Hebbal Veterinary College former director Dr A V Rai, Dharwad BAIF Institute former research officer Dr G R Hegade and lecturer from IISC, Dr K P Achar were present at the seminar.
