Panaji, Jan 16 (IANS): The Goa church has started a statewide quest, scouting for the owners of three statues, including one of Jesus Christ, which mysteriously washed ashore at Miramar beach last week.
The statues have no antique value, and are made of Plaster of Paris.
"We are just trying to find out who they belong to. So a letter is being written to all church parishes in Goa for enquiry," church spokesperson Olavo Caiado told IANS.
Miramar beach, where the partly disfigured statues washed ashore, is about 60 km from state capital Panaji.
The statues were discovered by lifeguards at Miramar beach.
The three statues are believed to be modelled as Jesus, Our Lady of Lourdes and Our Lady of Vailankani.
"They are now kept at the Bishop's House (official residence of the Goa Archbishop) for safekeeping," he said.
Less than a third of Goa's population -- which according to census 2011 was 14,59,000 -- is Christian.
