ICGS Sankalp being launched by Susheela Paleri
ICGS Sankalp and ICGS Savitri Bai Phule were launched on Friday respectively by Susheela Paleri, wife of Dr P Paleri, director-general of the Indian Coast Guard and Uma Vadgaonkar, wife of Rear Admiral Sanjay Vadgaonkar, flag officer-commanding, Goa area.
ICGS Sankalp, an advanced offshore patrol vessel, is the largest vessel in the series and is suitable of handling and patrolling the maritime zones with full alertness at its best. The vesselis fitted with 30mm gun with fire control sysytem and 12.7 mm guns. The vessel has the capacity of staging helicopters boarding. The range falls within 6500nm and the maximum speed is 24 knots.

ICGS Savitri Bai Phule, the fast patrol vessel, is the fifth vessel in the series and is named after the wife of the social
reformer Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. The ship has been basicaly designed for patrolling anti-smuggling and anti-terrorist activities. It is also caplable of supporting the Indian Navy during wartimes. the vessel is fitted with 30mm gun and 12.7mm machine-guns. The vessel is tested for long periods at sea. The fully airconditioned vessel has the capacity of accommodating 35 men on board.
