Udupi, Apr 13: "Nagarjuna project has cleared all permissions from both union and state governments. Since the power plant will be set up using the (Flue Gas Desulphurization) FGD there is no danger for environment in whatsoever way. Ever since FGD technology has come up, even Switzerland which is very sensitive about environment has welcomed thermal projects," said state medical education and animal husbandry minister Dr V S Ahcarya.
He was speaking at the 'Mukhamukhi' (face-to-face) programme organized by Udupi Consumers Forum and District Consumers Information Centre here on Wednesday April 12.
He further said that the state is facing acute dearth of power as 4,500 mg. Mega as well as small industries are facing a lot of problems owing to the dearth of power. "I agree that gas based power generation projects are environmental friendly. But in the present situation it will take another 10-12 years to set up these projects. They are not economical too. So let us welcome Nagarjuna. Of course the company has to compensate properly all who have donated their land for the project. We will move forward after taking people into confidence," he added.
