The Kudroli abattoir, the hub of meat distribution around town, has been closed down following pollution authorities' orders. The city body had assured to comply with the hygiene requirements before March 2006, which are reportedly not implemented. The police kept guard to ensure law and order and to prevent unseemly events.
With beef and mutton sales totally stopped because of the closure, chicken vendors geared up fully to cope with the demand and had brisk sales.
There was a minor fire on the premises of newly-opened Multiplex on Monday afternoon. The packing material lying outside reportedly caught fire. It is suspected that some smoker may have thrown a smouldering cigarette into the heap. The fire brigade brought the fire under control without much damage.
