Mangalore, Apr 3: Ever since Rajesh Shetty has taken over the Kudroli slaughter house, slaughtering has almost come to standstill. While only 13 bullocks were slaughtered on Sunday April 2, only 9 were slaughtered on Monday April 3 morning.
However, the slaughtering went on in the absence of contractor Rajesh Shetty and veterinary doctor Ashok. While Rajesh has not at all stepped into the slaughter house for the last 2 days, Dr Ashok has been admitted to a city base private hospital on Monday owing to health problems.
Dr Ashok had examined 15 bullocks on Saturday April 1 and had permitted only 13 to be slaughtered. While one bullock was rejected because it was injured, the other one was rejected since it was found to be less than 12 years age.
The 13 bullocks were slaughtered on Sunday morning. This is said to be violation of law. The cattle could be slaughtered only after 24 hours of doctor's certificate. Even on Sunday 13 bullocks were brought for slaughter out of which only 9 were given permission. These were slaughtered on Monday morning, well within 12 hours of giving permission.
Now Dr Ashok has been admitted to hospital and he has taken leave for the coming 3 days. MCC has appointed another doctor on temporary basis.
However, contractor Rajesh Shetty has not stepped into the slaughter house for the last 2 days. He has already filed a case with the Bunder police that he has been threatened to be murdered if he steps into the slaughter house.
In this way, the slaughter house issue is slowly hitting headlines ever since Rajesh Shetty took it over on Saturday. There is a lot of curiosity among the public as how the slaughter house will be run in the future. Everyone knows that 96 cattle are not at all enough for the city. There is a fear that an acute scarcity of beef will be felt in the city if the situation continues to be in the same vain for sometime.
There are also apprehensions that if the supply does not meet the demand, then, illegal slaughter house might start functioning everywhere. This may give way for further rift and fight between the beef sellers, eaters and Hindu organizations who have taken over the slaughter house in Rajesh's name.
