Pakistan Taliban chief killed in US drone attack

Updated

Islamabad, Nov 2 (PTI): Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan chief chief Hakimullah Mehsud, who was killed in a CIA-operated drone strike in the country's restive North Waziristan, was today buried at an unknown location, a media report said.

Hakimullah, his uncle, driver and other aides who fell prey to the US drone attacks were buried at different places in the North Waziristan this morning, Geo News reported.

According to the sources, TTP's Markazi Majlis-e-Shura (Central Advisory Committee) would appoint a new chief soon.

Umar Khalid, Maulana Fazlullah and Khan Said alias Sajna are under consideration for the top slot, the report said quoting sources.

There was no official word on the killing of Hakimullah.

Hakimullah's killing is the latest in a string of setbacks for the top leadership of Taliban and al-Qaeda, who have been repeatedly targeted by US drones in the tribal belt.Pakistani and international media had reported Hakimullah's death several times in the past but he had surfaced after lying low for some time.

The drone strike came days after US special forces captured TTP deputy chief Latif Mehsud in Afghanistan. This was the second drone strike in two days. Three suspected militants were killed in an attack on Thursday.

It was also the second drone strike since Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited the US last month.

Sharif had raised the issue of drone strikes during his meeting with President Barack Obama in Washington and demanded the US to halt the attacks.

The Taliban has been waging a bloody campaign against Pakistani forces and has carried out a series of bombings and suicide attacks that killed thousands across the country.

Hakimullah was first named Jamshed, but when he became the spokesperson for Baitullah Mehsud, the former TTP chief, he was known as Zulfiqar Ali.

After Baitullah was killed in a drone strike in August 2009, he became known by his birth name Hakimullah Mehsud and took over the reins of power, Express News reported.

He belonged to the Ishangi, the sub-tribe of Mehsud, and was the eldest of three brothers.

The TTP chief was fond of cricket and used to play the sport. His hobbies included speeding and firing, before and after he joined the TTP.

Do you think 9/11 who has given license to them. Don't play with fire. If they play it will burn. USA is a nation where many lives with happiness whereas Pakistan many lives with fear, poor, no freedom of religious belief, no respect for women, no respect for education that is what you support to have license. Be happy that you are in India WITH SECURE, safe and free. Respect the nation and help India rather sitting in India supporting Pakistan is not a great idea. Everywhere same problems. Have no regrets for the man died in the picture and his associates. its good the dirt cleaned from this earth. no mercies on mercyless pigs

USA has a responsibility and accountability towards the world but people hide in the caves has no responsibility and respect towards human and no one knows how many people they kill in a day if people don't believe what they ask them to. One day god willing such evil will disappear from this world and god bless this world with good creature for all to live a happy, peaceful life. at this moment east to west we have same problems from similar people and never ending with drone attacks only god can eliminate with natural disaster of that part of the world

Our eyes are open all the times and watching the killings of many innocent lives wrongfully in the name of using Blasamey in many part of the world on innocent for no reasons. Do you need such laws around in a secular countries where we love to live peacefully without much fear places like India, North America, Europe. For god sake donot support the evil minded devil who is destroying the world for only one reason 'religion". if you take out from your mind of that, your eyes will be open as mine and see a beautiful god given blessed world for all. Let the evil die but please don't support bad people. Hope your educated and understand life.

If we build a Frankenstein, the outside power will come to eliminate them. That is law of nature.
Due to Pakistan's hate policy they have become a failed state with violence as part of their living.
Please remember, a stitch in time saves nine.
