Mangalore, Oct 19: The student council for the new year was inaugurated at the decennial hall in Fr Muller’s Medical College (FMMC) on Friday October 18.
Manjula, general secretary of 2012-13, delivered the welcome speech and introduced the chief guest. The students council was introduced during the meet.
Dr Sushil Jatthana, director, Global Municipality Hospital and Athena Hospital, was the chief guest on the occasion and shared the dais with Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director of FMMC, Fr Rudolph Ravi D'Sa, administrator, and Dr J P Alva, dean of FMMC.
The following are the office-bearers for the year 2013-14 - Aneeshya Celes (president), Prachi V Kelkar (vice-president), Veronica Lobo (general secretary), Priya Kamat (joint secretary), Vaishaka (cultural secretary), Deepak Varghese (magazine director), Nithi Titus (sports secretary), Mathew Shaja (secretary), Nithi Perana (magazine editor), Justin Thomas (sports secretary), Atul Abraham (media committee secretary), Thoshana Prabhu (secretary) for student development committee, and Jitin John (secretary) for technical committee.
The new office bearers were declared by Fr Rudolph Ravi D'Sa. Dr J P Alva led the student council in oath while Dr Jatthana handed over the badges.
Dr Jatthana said, “The national health service in United Kingdom is different from India and is placed on three principals free at the point of delivery, done through general taxation. and available to everyone.”
“Nearly 78 percent of all surgery is done in day care and by community services. Compulsory accreditation is essential and quality is treated as a process to be achieved at all times,” he added.
In terms of education in United Kingdom, he said that more emphasis is given to learning than teaching and skill-based training.
Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director of FMMC, in his presidential address, said, “The one who wants to be the greatest among you must be a servant of all. This is true leadership. We think leadership is power but it is a dedication to provide service. In every field a leader must set an example,” he added.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Veronica Lobo, general secretary of 2013 -14.
