Moscow, Oct 15 (IANS): Russian security services have detained two men suspected of planning a terrorist attack on a chemical weapons storage facility that could have caused hundreds of deaths, the country's Investigative Committee said Tuesday.
The two suspects, aged 19 and 21, are from the North Caucasus region, the Committee said in a statement, without specifying the exact area, according to Xinhua.
According to investigators, the two men planned to bomb a building used for storing and disposing of chemical weapons in the northern Kirov region.
The suspects, described as followers of the extremist Islamic Wahabi sect, allegedly travelled from Moscow to Kotelnich, a port town in the Kirov region, where they lived in an abandoned house.
Investigators found components for a home-made explosive device, the statement said.
