Pakistan again violates ceasefire

Jammu, Oct 15 (IANS): Pakistani troops fired at Indian positions without any provocation in the Mendhar sector of the Line of Control (LoC) of Jammu and Kashmir late Monday evening, a defence spokesman told IANS.

"Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing at our positions in Hamirpur area of Mendhar sector in Poonch district last evening," Col. R.k. Palta said.

"They used small arms, automatics and mortars. Our troops responded strongly with equal calibre weapons. The firing exchanges continued for about 10 minutes. There was no damage or casualty on our side," Palta said.

A bilateral ceasefire was signed between India and Pakistan in November 2003. Pakistan has been frequently violating the ceasefire agreement of late.

Since the beginning of this year so far, Pakistan has violated the ceasefire in the Jammu region of the state more than 100 times.
