United Nations, Oct 11 (IANS): The UN Security Council Thursday called on Central African Republic (CAR) to implement transitional arrangements.
In a unanimously-adopted resolution, the security council urged all parties in CAR to respect the political agreements signed this year which "provide the basis for a peaceful political resolution for the crisis in the CAR", Xinhua reported.
The 15-member body demanded the CAR to quickly implement transitional agreements and hold "a free, fair and transparent presidential election" within 18 months after the start of the transition period Aug. 18.
It also urged the Seleka rebels and all other armed groups to lay down their arms and join disarmament and demobilisation programmes.
