Shimla, Oct 10 (IANS): Himachal Pradesh Thursday demanded liberal funding from the central government for expanding the transport network in the urban areas of the state.
"We need liberal funding for the urban transport network keeping in view the rapid migration to urban areas due to industrialisation," Urban Development Minister Sudhir Sharma said in a statement.
Sharma, who met Union Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath in Delhi, requested him to allow the state to set up an urban mobility transport authority to streamline the transport network in the urban areas under one umbrella.
Nath assured him that the central government would relax norms to set up the mobility authority in all the hilly states.
Meanwhile, officials of the state government and the urban development ministry will meet in Delhi Nov 26 to discuss the state's pending projects, said the statement.
