Karkala, Mar 8: A new hostel for boys was inaugurated by Fr Loddy Peris, provincial of the newly-formed Konkan province of the Salesian order.

The jurisdiction of the Konkan province will be over entire Konkan belt from Ratnagiri in Maharashtra in North to Mangalore in Karnataka in the south including Goa.

In his inaugural speech,  Fr Loddy said that the new hostel would be indeed helpful to the needy boys in and around Kelmbet. Drawing a historic parallel, he also recollected that the Salesians first came to Tanjore in Tamil Nadu a hundred years ago and the first work they did was to start a hostel to for boys. Hence the current hostel could be the centenary memorial of this great event.

Kelmbet-Bola is a small parish in Shirva Varado which is about 15 kms from Belman and 30 kms from moodbidri. As this parish was much backward three years ago it was handed over to Don Bosco Salesian priest by the diocese. Two enthusiasistic young priests, Frs Felix and Maxim SDB worked very hard and developed the parish to a great extent. And now they have built a new hostel for boys.

This hostel is meant for the Konkani Christian boys studying from 5th to 10th standard. The hostelites will be imparted special training by the specialized Don Bosco priests. Registration for the current accademic year will be in March and April 2006.
