Mangalore, Mar 7: No one should get surprised neither the fact should startle anyone.  All those who have lived in the city for sometime surely know where the city is actually heading towards.  The dirt at construction sites, inefficient management of waste, lack of proper sewerage facilities etc have made the city into a dump yard.  That is why no one was taken aback when deputy director of Malaria Research Centre Dr S K Ghosh said that the city alone houses 25% of the Malaria affected of the entire state.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 'Jaivika Jagruti' (Organic Awareness) programme at St Aloysius College here on Monday March 6.  The awareness programme was organized by 'Quit Malaria - Save Life' movement and Mangalore Parisaraskta Federation.

He feted the St Aloysius College MSW students for initiating the unique movement "Quit Malaria - Save Life" to create awareness among the masses.

Fr Eugene Lobo, principal of St Aloysius College, and  Prof Hilda Rayappan, dean of the Social Work department were also present on the occasion.

The student coordinator of 'Quit Malaria - Save Life' movement Harsha R welcomed the gathering and staff coordinator Ashok D'Souza proposed the vote of thanks.
