Mangalore, Mar 6: Death it is said is a great leveller. Sometimes it strikes when one is least aware of it. Therefore, nothing and no one can stop death stroke and for that matter no one can determine a favourable hour to die.
This was proved very true on Sunday March 5 afternoon, with a father and son duo who had gone fishing. When they left the house for fishing in the morning, neither any one of them nor anyone back in their house might have thought they were leaving the house for the last time.
But fate had its own say in the life of Raju (45) and his only son Nireeksha (9), residents of Kanvatheertha near Udyavar of Talapady here. The duo went for fishing but never came back as they met a watery grave near Talapady Bridge on Sunday.
Raju was a fisherman by profession and was working in a fishing boat. However, during his free time he used to go fishing in the nearby river too. On Sunday after he came home, he took his only son Nireeksha for fishing in the nearby river. Since Nireeksha had holiday for the school, he happily and readily obliged and went along with his father.
However, no one knows what happened later on. It is suspected that they might have been caught up deep in the mire after casting the net. However, no one came to know about it since no one was around there.
The tragedy came to light only when Raju's wife complained with her neighbours in the evening that her husband and son who had gone for fishing had not yet returned. Confused and pushed to the wall, they started searching for them. It was only in the night that their bodies were traced.
Nothing and no one could console Nirmala. Tragedy had not only snatched her husband but also her only son.
Nireeksha was a class IV student at the Bovi School of Ucchila near here. The school declared a holiday on Monday, owing to the death of Nireeksha.
The Manjeshwar police have registered a case as per the complaint lodged by Nirmala.
