Udupi, Mar 6: A fight between two friends over a gambling-related issue resulted in the murder of one of them at Moodabettu near Malpe here on Sunday March 5.

The murdered has been identified as Dinesh alias Munna alias 'O C Dinesh' (25), a resident Madhwanagar of Moodabettu.  His friend Arif, who stabbed Dinesh to death, has now been arrested by Malpe police.

Dinesh owned a bicycle shop at Madhwanagar.  But he was a known gambler of the area.  In fact he was the prime accused in the gambling activities that have been prevalent in the Malpe area.

The incident took place after 8 in the night on Sunday.  Arif came to Dinesh's shop and began a verbal brawl over some gambling related issue.  Soon, both the friends were up in arms.  At this stage an enraged Arif stabbed Dinesh with a knife in his stomach and chest.  As a result Dinesh sustained serious injuries and fell on the ground.

However, once Arif saw Dinesh panting for life in a pool of blood, he left the latter and fled the place.  Though there were several persons around there, no one took initiative to admit Dinesh to the hospital.  It was some half an hour later that Dinesh's elder brother who came to know about the incident arrived at the place and rushed his brother to the Ajjarkad hospital.  However, Dinesh had breathed his last by then.

Arif and Dinesh were very good friends of each other.  Both of them were involved in the gambling business of the area.  But hardly anyone had imagined that same gambling business would result in the murder of one of them.

The Malpe police have registered a complaint in this regard.
