Mangalore, Mar 6: The 10th regional conference of Vijaya Bank Worker's Organisation (VBWO), Mangalore region was held at the Corporation Bank Employees' Union golden jubilee hall in City on Sunday March 5.
Addressing the gathering VBWO general secretary K Muddanna Shetty opposed the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS). Calling it an unhealthy trend in banking sector, Shetty said that recruitment in nationalised banks have been stopped, but business in banks is doubled making burden on employees where work which was handled by four people together is now being looked after by one person.
Regretting over the privatisation, liberalisation and globalisation trends, Shetty said privatisation is the main cause of all problems in the banking scenario.
Speaking on the occasion, Karnataka Bank Employees' Association general secretary P R Karanth said the bank employees will organise protests across the country on Thursday March 9 against government's policy to not to provide employment on the basis of sympathy.
