Sullia, Mar 5: An elderly citizen committed suicide after murdering his wife with a dagger in Ivarnadu on Saturday, March 4.
Sixty-nine-year-old Krishnappa Gowda, former vice-president of Ivarnadu Society, was suffering from diabetic since 15 years and was also suffering from mental illness. Whenever there were changes in blood sugar level report Krishnappa Gowda would react violently and brandish a stick at his wife Varija (68) warning that he would use it to kill her.
On Saturday when their son returned he found the house deserted. However, in the kitchen he found his mother in a pool of blood. His father had committed suicide by hanging from a tree.
Based on the statement given by his son Damodar, a complaint has been registered at the Sullia police station.
Senior police officers Puttur division Dy SP Subrahmanyeshwara Rao, Sullia inspector C K Sashidhar and others visited the spot.
The couple is survived by two sons and two daughters.
