Kolkata, Sep 17 (IANS): Exotic prints and weaves of the northeastern states, blended with West Bengal's 'kantha' will be showcased here during a week-long exhibition beginning Friday.
The Seven Sisters exhibition at the Weavers Studio will exhibit products culled from each of the seven states in the northeast, including the intricate loin loom weaves, and workshops.
Loin loom or back-strap loom is a portable bamboo loom popular in Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland and some parts of Assam.
"We have tunics from our studio which will have the motifs from the northeast with kantha stitch done on it. There will be nine-yard sarees with those designs. Furnishings like cushion covers, and table linen will also be part of it," Darshan Shah, founder-trustee of the studio, told IANS.
From Assam the symbolic 'chaador' or wrap and the characteristic temple designs of Manipur will vie for attention at the exhibition.
