New Delhi, Sep 15 (DHNS): A 20-year-old NRI was allegedly beaten to death in south-east Delhi’s Kalkaji in the wee hours of Saturday. Four of his friends have been detained for questioning, police said.
Anmol Sarna, who was raised at Nassau County in New York, was at his friend’s house in South Park Apartment in Kalkaji when the attack took place around 12.30 am. Police said he was attending a farewell party of his childhood friend.
Anmol was in the Capital since January and was scheduled to go to Canada for a hotel management course next month. Currently, the non-resident Indian was staying at his grandmother’s house in Kalkaji.
His cousin Ankit said Anmol recently met his childhood friend Chikki after which they started hanging out together. “Chikki also helped Anmol meet three other schoolmates. On Friday morning, Chikki asked Anmol to stay at his place saying he would be going to London on Saturday,” Ankit added.
Around 12.05 am, a missed call was received on Anmol’s father Anil’s mobile phone from Chikki’s mobile phone. When Anil called back, the call remained unanswered. Anil then made a call to Anmol, but he did not respond.
After 15 minutes, Chikki’s mother informed Anil that Anmol had fallen sick after having dinner and had been rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre. “When we reached the hospital, doctors informed that Anmol had succumbed to injuries,” Ankit said. Injury marks were also noticed on his head due to which Anmol’s family became suspicious. “Doctors stated that the injury marks were caused after being struck several times with a blunt object,” Ankit added.
Meanwhile, police said they were informed by a passerby after Anmol was found lying in a pool of blood in Kalkaji. “When a team reached the spot, blood was found in a car and on the street,” a police officer said.
Bloodstains were also found in Chikki’s house, due to which, Anmol’s four friends were detained.
