Mangalore: 'Sacrifices of bankers will not go unrewarded'

Mangalore, Sep 14: The 12th annual meet of All Banks' Christian Employees Association (ABCEA) was held at St Sebastian Platinum Jubilee hall, Bendur here on Saturday September 14. The occasion also marked the 12th annual day celebration of ABCEA.
Dr Thomas J Quadros, ex-banker and educationalist was the chief guest of the programme while Dr Kurian Abraham, deputy general manager of Corporation Bank was the guest of honour.
In his address, Dr Thomas Quadros said, "Bringing bank employees under one banner and organizing various programmes for a social cause is a tough task." Lauding ABCEA for taking the initiative in this direction, he said these kinds of programmes give moral satisfaction.
Urging bankers to participate in these activities, he said it will make their life fruitful and meaningful and ultimately enable them to achieve fulfillment.
"As bankers we should prove that we are useful in whichever organization we work. That apart, we should see to that we achieve moral satisfaction along with job satisfaction," he added.
"Sacrifices made by us will not go unrewarded," said Dr Thomas, asking bankers gathered to cope up with stress and not to give up when faced with difficulties.
Dr Kurian Abraham lauding ABCEA for helping the needy people of the community said, "We as bankers are capable of helping the needy and we should do it. Respect, humility and generosity are the values which promote peace and goodwill, and which Christians are known for.
"As Christians we have a role to play in making this world a better place and live a moral life. Others should identify us by our actions," he added.
On the occasion, the guests awarded deserving children of ABCEA members in recognition of their academic excellence. Melanie Nisha Pinto, Brian Pinto, Cleton Pais, Brian Dominic Rego, Alisha Rodrigues, Joanna Rachel Vaz, Deepak Louis and Melva Lobo were the awardees.
D J Patrao, newly elected director of MCC bank who was the founder president of ABCEA was also honored.
General secretary Marcel D’Souza presented the annual report before the audience.
ABCEA activities for the year 2012-13 were scholarship given to 11 students of Padua school with the help from NRI entrepreneur Ronald Colaco, Rs 1,38,000 cheque handed over to baby Vinisha D’Souza from Kasargod whose legs were amputated, Rs 50,000 given to family of late Lancelot D’Souza who died recently in Muscat in a tragic incident, conducted workshop of ‘bank jobs – a golden opportunity’, Rs 10,00 to the family of late Rithesh Monteiro Bajal who recently died near Pumpwell circle and several others.
ABCEA president Audy Rego, vice presidents Jerome Moras and Dora Rodrigues, general secretary Marcel M D’Souza, treasurer Steevan Pinto, PRO Dolphy Saldanha, C G Pinto, Walter Lasrado among others were present.
