M'lore: Interactive session on service tax scheme held

Mangalore, Sep 13:
  Commissionerate of service tax,here, conducted an interactive session on Service Tax Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme, at Kanara Small Industries Association Building, Baikampady, on Thursday September 12.

The Central Government has introduced Service Tax Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme, 2013 (VCES, 2013) to encourage stop filers, non-filers and defaulters who had not discharged their Service Tax liability as per law.

Under this scheme, option has been given for such persons/entities to make truthful declarations before the designated authorities in respect of service tax dues from October 1, 2007 to December 31, 2012. In order to avail the scheme, the declarant is required to pay 50% of such dues December, 31 2013 and the balance by June 30, 2014. In turn, the declarants get immunity from penalty,interest and other proceedings.

During the interactive session, commissioner of central excise and service tax, Dr M Subramanyam and a team of officers held deliberations with the trade, industry and other stake holders.

The session was also attended by the office-bearers of Kanara Small Industries Association.

During the session, the commissioner emphasized that the service providers and the recipients of services attracted by reverse charge mechanism should make use of the golden opportunity extended by the scheme. The officers also provided clarifications and responded to the queries raised by the participants.
