Mangalore, Sep 10: “The government should take necessary steps to give a clear cut idea about the Yettinahole Project before implementing it. Confusion among the people regarding the project should be sorted out,” said Pratapsinha Nayak, president of Beltangady taluk Hitarakshana Vedike.
Addressing media persons at Hotel Woodlands here on Tuesday September 10, Nayak said the Hitarakshana Vedike has been formed irrespective of political party affiliations and it will fight whenever any problem arises in the district."
He placed two major demands in front of the government - to postpone the date of foundation laying of the project, scheduled on September 14, and to make public the details of the project, including its merits and demerits.
Nayak said that they have already spoken to elected representatives regarding the project and very soon they will also discuss the same with the chief minister.
B K Dhananjay Rao, secretary of the Vedike said, “Whenever any problem arises in the district, the Vedike will fight against it. Yettinahole is the new name for the earlier Netravati river diversion project and people of the district are still unaware of it. Hence the Vedike demands for a clear explanation from the government about the project.”
"We are not against or in support of the project, but we want to know about the project in detail. Any good project planned for this district is welcome, he said.
He further said elected representatives should hold discussions throughout the district on educating the people about the project.
