Mangalore: Group led by Francis Cutinho bags majority in MCC Bank election

Mangalore, Sep 7: The group led by Francis Cutinho secured majority by winning 8 of the 13 posts in the MCC Bank election held on Saturday September 7.
The other 5 posts were won by candidates belonging to the group led by Melwyn D'Cunha.

Apart from Francis Cutinho, the others who won in his group were Dr Veronica Judith Pinto (women category), Jerald Jude D’Silva, Melwyn Clifford D’Souza, Andrew D’ Souza Palladka, Alwyn Patrao, Dennis D’Souza, and Dolphy Patrao.
Among the group led by Melwyn D'Cunha, apart from himself, the winners were Dr Edward Nazareth, Edmund Frank, Adolphus Cutinha and Shalet Pinto (women category).
The polling was held at Loyala hall, St Aloysius College from 9 am to 4 pm. The counting began at 4.30 pm and went on till late night, and the results were declared after 11.30 pm.
The returning officer was V Maheshwarappa. As many as 3,692 voters cast their votes.

Mangalore, Sep 7: The polling for MCC Bank election on Saturday September 7 recorded a turnout of 12 percent at 2 pm.
The election is being held at Loyola Hall, St Aloysius College.
As many as 2,785 voters turned up by 2 pm, officials said.

A turnout of 11 percent was recorded at 1 pm in the MCC Bank election that got under way at Loyola Hall, St Aloysius College on Saturday September 7.
As many as 2,153 out of the 20,158 voters cast their vote by 1 pm.

The Mangalore Catholic Cooperative (MCC) Bank election got under way at Loyola Hall, St Aloysius College here on Saturday September 7.
Altogether, 36 men and 6 women candidates are contesting for 11 general seats two seats reserved for women.
Three groups of 13 members, each led led by Melwyn D'Cunha, Valentine D'Silva and Francis Cuntinho are in the fray, apart from three other contestants.
There are 20,128 voters and the counting will begin soon after the polling ends at 4 pm.
Despite heavy rains, the voters came in good numbers and cast their votes in the 12 booths set up at the venue.
As many as 50 officers have been appointed to ensure smooth elections, headed by returning officer V Maheshwarappa.
