Islamabad, Sep 7 (IANS): At least eight people, including a child, were killed when gunmen opened fire at passenger vehicles in Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar late Friday, officials said Saturday.
The attack took place on the Kohat road in Peshawar's Mattni area, a zone near the restive tribal region of Dara Adamkhel, police told Xinhua.
The gunmen shot indiscriminately at vehicles passing through the area.
Four people were killed on the spot while four were injured in the attack. They later died in a hospital Saturday morning.
Police and security forces exchanged fire with the attackers, but the assailants managed to flee.
Residents said the attackers might have been robbers who looted vehicles that stopped.
