New Delhi, Sep 6 (IANS): The BJP Friday accused the Congress of "misleading" the people of Delhi with its achievement report in which the party had said that the capital had transformed in its 15 years of rule.
"Congress has turned Delhi into an unaffordable, unplanned, unsafe and polluted city in its 15 years of misrule. They are misleading the people with false claims," said Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi unit chief Vijay Goel.
Delhi Congress had Wednesday released a report card highlighting its achievements in the capital. Released by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, the report focused on improvements in infrastructure as well as social security schemes.
In their "counter report card", the BJP said that Dikshit had failed to curb high inflation, crime against women, skyrocketing power and water tariffs, lack of adequate public transport etc.
"Delhi government claims that it is at the second position in gross domestic product (GDP) growth over past five years. But in 2009-10 it was ranked 17th; in 2010-11 it was 18th and in 2011-12 it stood at 15th position," said its report.
"The unemployment rate has increased under Congress. In 99-2000, the unemployment rate was 3.6 percent while it is 4 percent now," it said.
Accusing the government of failing to provide proper education and healthcare facilities, the report said that there were only 2 clinics per 10,000 people in Delhi and around 80 government schools have been shut down while 12,000 positions of school teachers are lying vacant.
