Cairo, Sep 5 (IANS): Egyptian Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim Thursday survived an assassination attempt when a bomb blew up near his convoy, said media and security sources.
The attack occurred as his convoy drove through Cairo's Nasr City distrct, Xinhua quoted the official news agency MENA as saying. Seven others were injured in the blast.
State-run Nile TV reported that the bomb was thrown from a building.
Traffic came to a halt on the street where the explosion took place. Some nearby shops were also damaged.
A mosque in Nasr City was the venue of a major sit-in organised by supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi.
