Mangalore, Feb 16: A group belonging to a fundamental Hindu organization ransacked a hotel on Old Kent Road at Pandeshwar here for serving beef on Wednesday February 15 night.
The persons entered Hotel Shobha owned by one Faizal of Kasargod as customers and asked the waiter to serve beef chilly. But then the latter told that the said item had already been finished, they asked him to serve beef biriyani. At this point waiter Umar got some doubt on the customers and he hesitated a bit.
In the meantime, one of the persons from the group called some one on his mobile. Within no time another 3-4 persons came in and ransacked the entire hotel damaging the furniture, STD booth and utensils etc. Moreover, they also stole Rs 2,000, which was in the cash box. Cashier Prasad and waiter Umar too were assaulted by them.
The total loss of property has been estimated to be more than Rs 30,000. The Hindu activists said to have mistaken the hotel name as a Hindu name. But "Shobha" means "beautiful" in Malayalam, the mother tongue of Faizal who hails from Kerala.
Faizal was running the hotel at Old Kent Road for many years now. He has now filed a case with the Pandeshwar police in this regard.
